The end rule of Ptolemy XII and the struggle of Cleopatra and her brother over the Egypt rule
When
Anthony entered at the head of an army force to the palace of King Ptolemy, he
saw the beautiful girl Cleopatra for the first time, she was running until thrown
in the arms of her father, crying with joy for her father's return, while she
was looked at the long young knight Anthony fulling of gratitude, while Anthony
was impressed by her beauty since he saw her for the first time through that
silent encounter during which they exchanged glances.
Thus,
Ptolemy regained the throne of Egypt again after three years, and after his
return, he orchestrated to kill "Berenice" and her supporters, then
he seized power uncontested.
Ptolemy
did not stay in the rule of Egypt for only four years, during which he remained
hated by the Egyptians, and he was enforced on them with the support of the
Roman army, and in the year 51 BC Ptolemy died and left a will, in which he
nominated his daughter Cleopatra and his younger son as his successors to the
rule after his departure.
Now
the rule of Egypt after a will of Ptolemy XII became common between Cleopatra
and her little brother Ptolemy, but the laws and customs during that period did
not favor that status, so these laws and customs were endorsing her male
brother and prefer Ptolemy ruling alone, but the matters could not pass that
simple in front of a strong and intelligent personality like the character of
Cleopatra, and according to the ancient traditions that the Ptolemaic took from
the ancient Egyptians, it was possible for Cleopatra to marry her brother, and
she did that to maintain ruling, especially since her father favored that marriage in
his will, so the rule in Egypt became shared between Cleopatra, who was 19
years old, and her younger brother, who was about 9 years old, who acquired the
name of Ptolemy XIII.
intelligent
Cleopatra was able to possess the hearts of The Egyptians with her breathtaking
charm and bright look, and she also provided them a more comfortable and
blissful life compared to what they found of tiredness and deprivation in
the previous era of her father, so she
was worthy of the name "beloved of the people", rather she became
consider a national symbol where the Egyptians considered her the mythical
queen "Isis", who was mentioned in the Egyptian myth that she ruled
Egypt with the participation of her husband "Osiris".
But
Cleopatra did not enjoy the comfort and bliss as a queen for a long time, as
repeated disagreements quickly erupted between her and her younger brother, where
each party became disputing and grappling
for ruling, and Cleopatra was aware that she the worthiest for taking power thanks to the love of the
Egyptians for her, and also thanks to what She has experience of things her
younger brother misses, but at the same time, her brother was surrounded by a
group of his supporters who in fact acted for their personal interests, then
they became enemies to Cleopatra, and among the most prominent of them were
three men with strong positions in the palace: - "Euthenus Greek Who held
the position of advisor to King Ptolemy XIII, and Achillas, he was an Egyptian
and held the position of commander of the royal guard, and Theodotus greek, who
was a special teacher to the king", Thus the shared ruling became to the
brink of collapse, so one party had to get rid of the other, and that conflict
lasted for about three years until Ptolemy XIII and his supporters succeeded in
forcing Cleopatra to leave Egypt, and she was 22 years old at the time.
Cleopatra
left Egypt when the noose was tightened on her, but she was really not weak to
accept submission and surrender, as she was managing her affairs in preparation
for a strong returning again.
